Are you drawn to the idea of a first look but uncertain whether it's right for you? Historically, couples rarely saw each other before the ceremony, choosing instead to wait until the bride walked down the aisle. However, a first look offers far more than simply deciding when to see your partner.
1. It helps calm your nerves in those final moments before your ceremony begins.
It's natural to experience anxiety and nervousness as you approach the altar. This apprehension can come from multiple sources: the anticipation of seeing your future spouse, combined with the awareness of all eyes on you as you enter the room.
Seeing and feeling each other during a first look significantly eases pre-ceremony nerves and builds excitement for what's to come. You can talk, laugh, and share your feelings openly, creating a more relaxed and connected atmosphere when the ceremony begins.
2. Time Management
Many people don't realize that a first look can actually save time on their wedding day.
Once the first look is complete, I transition directly to couple portraits. From there, I photograph the full bridal party and any immediate family members who are present and ready.
This approach can save 30 to 60 minutes during the post-ceremony portrait session, which is typically the most stressful time. Not only are you working against the clock, but you're often searching for specific family members who need to be included in photos.
3. You're all set to mingle with guests and enjoy the cocktail hour!
While some couples prefer to wait until the grand reception entrance to see guests, cocktail hour offers a wonderful opportunity to connect with your guests in a more relaxed setting. The reception itself can be hectic, making it difficult to greet everyone personally. This intimate time allows you to embrace your loved ones without the rush—enjoy a drink, savor appetizers, and truly be present with those who matter most!!
